Az Amerikai Kuckó társulata, a (Confuse-A-Cat Ltd.), The War Room című előadásával az idei Angol Nyelvű Dráma Fesztiválon elnyerte a Legjobb Rendezésért járó díjat, illetve annak jogát, hogy a 2009-es fesztivál nyitóelőadását rendezhesse. A társulat május végén turnéra indul, hogy más városokban is népszerűsítse az angol nyelvű színházi előadásokat és lehetőséget nyújtson az angol tanítás alternatív módszereinek bővítésére.
Mivel debreceni középiskolák is jelezték igényüket, ezért a Kuckó június 4-én (szerdán) 20:00-tól Debrecenben kizárólag a helyi diákoknak még egyszer műsorra tűzi a The War Room-ot.
A program különlegessége, hogy az előadást megelőzően az angol tanárok részére bocsátanak olyan előkészítő feladatokat, amelyek mind történelmi,mind nyelvi szempontból ráhangolják diákokat a témára és megkönnyítik az előadás megértését.
About the Production
The War Room is based on Stanley Kubrick’s movie, Dr. Strangelove (1963). It is set in a hectic era similar to ours: America in the Cold War during the 1950’s. Beside bringing up political issues, the play presents the human nature and its imperfection with irony and self-irony.
In the background of global decisions we usually find the same impulse as what the kindergartner feels whose toy tank has just been taken away by an other kindergartner. This is why the setting of the frame-piece is a nursery school. The play apart from having a script scintillating with wit is a perfect representation of political and everyday idiocy. We wish you pleasant confusion!
About the Company
The Confuse–A–Cat Ltd. theater company was established in the summer of 2007 but the personal and professional relationships between the members date back to 2003. They are all former students of the Institute of English and American Studies, University of Debrecen, who have been working together on several productions in English and achieved great success on international theater festivals of universities.
The company’s name (Confuse–A–Cat Ltd.) is originally the title of one of the Monty Python group’s scenes in which the actors cheer up a melancholic cat. Confuse–A–Cat Ltd. regards everyone in the audience as melancholic cats.
The production won the Dick St George Award for Best Direction and the Special Festival Award on the Annual Festival of Drama in English in 2008.
